Fujihata Masaki
One of the pioneers of the new media art. He began his career with video work in the early 1980's. As one of the first he used stereolithography - a technique involving laser engraving in liquid resin. He also created the smallest sculpturesq in the world using techniques used to produce integrated circuits (works visible only under the electron microscope). Most often associated with complex interactive installations focused on the study of human communication in virtual spaces and augmented reality.

His interactive works include among others "Removable Reality" (1992), which used an infrared wireless phone, and "Impressing Velocity" (1994), where he used a laptop equipped with GPS mapping up Fuji Mt. and giving it to users to explore. His works have been exhibited in many galleries and art festivals in Japan (eg Yokohama Triennale) and abroad: Ars Electronica (Linz), DEAF (Rotterdam), CyberForum (Lisbon), VEAF (Vancouver). The interactive installation of "Beyond Pages" is part of the permanent exhibition at the ZKM-Media Museum (Karlsruhe).

He studied at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music from 1975 to 1981. He is a lecturer at the Department of Environmental Information at Keio University, Kanagawa. In 1995 he was the curator of the exhibition "The Future of the Book of the Future". Author of numerous books and publications.
